When we aspire to leave a legacy of hope for future generations, it makes sense to proactively stay informed about what is going on locally and abroad. Awareness helps create change.
However, there are times in life when disconnecting to focus on what we can control is the right thing to do.
Looking after our very young granddaughters over the past month, just as when I raised my own children over thirty years ago, necessitated that I disengage from consuming news. My days were full enough. I could not dwell on major world events or let tragedy dominate my thoughts. I had to focus on the task at hand.
No news is good news
For most folks, no news is good news; for the press, good news is not news.

Becoming pleasantly oblivious to current affairs has, at times, protected my mental well-being, allowing me to teach, mentor, and help develop happy, healthy, resilient children and future leaders more effectively.
