It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent. It is the one that is most adaptable to change.

~ Charles Darwin

Other than this week, my husband and I have had the privilege of spending the better part of a couple of weeks in the neighbourhood where we raised our children, near where our daughter and her family currently live.

We are house sitting for friends who have another home in the Caribbean.

We went from being pretty isolated in cottage country, where we saw no one most days, to becoming immersed in a bustling community.

No more cold plunges in the morning, no walks in nature, no Wim Hof breath or morning stretching routine. So much to do. So little time.

Unfortunately, we have spent the better part of this past week in bed at the cottage, recovering from a nasty cold.

Exposure to the outdoors, even in extreme weather conditions, is health-promoting. We get more than vitamin D from sun exposure. The infrared light penetrates through clothes and contributes to our well-being.

Infrared light can prime and enhance immune function through multiple ways, including boosting energy production, modulating immune activity, and reducing inflammation.

When we are feeling better and return to our old neighbourhood, we have to find a way to build in more outdoor time and maintain our morning routines. We need to better adapt to our environment.
