Those who can't do, mock. Those who do, have no time to mock.

~ Abhijit Naskar

I am far from enlightened, but I have at times found myself uncomfortable when exposed to people who mock with the intention to belittle others.

Here I think out loud and share some random thoughts, because this is a last-minute post.

Some individuals make it a habit to mock politicians and leaders.

Even when these leaders appear to be abusing their power, who are we to judge? It takes courage and sacrifice to lead a nation, institution or organization.

Sitting back and criticizing is a sign of insecurity. It is not constructive.

There may be a place for mocking behaviour, however. It can be used to unify people in a humorous and relatable way. By sharing underlying messages meant to inspire critical thinking about controversial topics and current events, parody and satire done well can create awareness, promote curiosity, and mobilize constructive action.

It is not my intention to diminish all who mock. Pride, arrogance, disrespect, insecurity and lack of wisdom featured in some mocking behaviour hinder personal and communal well-being.

Mocking, with the intent to belittle others is a sign of insecurity and serves no one well.
