Freedom and happiness are found in the flexibility and ease with which we move through change.

~ Gautama Buddha

When I get up in the morning, I enjoy stepping outside for a cool dip in the lake and a few yoga poses on the dock. Exposing myself to natural light at dawn is energizing and sets me up for better quality sleep at night.

But if it doesn’t happen because I need to prepare for our early-rising grandchildren, I do not become resentful. I know I will spend enough time outdoors with the little ones and will get plenty of physical activity while contributing.

Working in the fitness and wellness industry, it quickly became apparent that for some people, exercise and wellness can become a form of addiction.

Although going to the gym and prioritizing self-care may improve quality of life, they can also impair it when they become excessive, compulsive, or poorly balanced with the rest of our lives.

Closing thought

All things change. Cultivate flexibility rather than perfection.

~ Jewel

Becoming too regimented can impair quality of life.

Flexibility in daily routine is healthy.
