The idea that no one is perfect is a view most commonly held by people with no grandchildren.

~ Doug Larson

Last evening, after our daily post-dinner walk, our one-and-a-half-year-old granddaughter and her three-year-old sister wanted to kayak with me.

I had a lot to do, including writing this blog. But how could I pass up such an opportunity?

Our younger granddaughter had previously been afraid to kayak. This was a first. As we glided in the water, she was so relaxed and proud of herself, asking that others clap for her.

It was a picture-perfect summer evening.

The three-year-old had earlier described her life at home as getting up in the morning, getting dressed, having breakfast, going to school, coming home, having dinner and going to sleep. Her life is not quite so mundane, but she is loving the unstructured, relaxed pace at the cottage.

As we paddled off into the sunset, we saw two loons, paused to chat with neighbours who took this picture, and watched older children do flips off a trampoline at a dock nearby.

I am grateful for a such fond memory of summer 2025.
