Alone, we can do so little; together, we can do so much.
~ Helen Keller
Social bonds play a crucial role in healthy aging. Research consistently shows that strong, meaningful relationships with family, friends, and community can promote physical health and mental well-being, while social isolation and loneliness pose serious risks comparable to smoking or obesity.
Finally reconnecting
Building… bridges for connection may never have been more important than it is right now…
~ Vivek H. Murthy, Together
This winter, we are spending much of our time in the neighbourhood where we raised our children. We have many friends with whom we have lost touch here.
Although we continue to prioritize family, especially time with our grandchildren, I am proactively creating opportunities to reconnect with old friends.
I had committed to reconnecting gradually over a year ago. Progress had been slow until now.
Fortunately, people in the neighbourhood are very active. A walk, followed by a visit to a local café, has been the preferred way to visit. It works for me.
Finding common ground with those who see the world through a different lens isn't always easy. But it is the right thing to do in the quest to reunite a divided world.
